Tóm tắt

The energy absorption behavior of thin-walled structures under quasi-static lateral impact plays an important role in crashworthy design. This study presents a numerical investigation of thin double-walled multi-corner single-hat (SHDW) and double-hat (DHDW) columns under three-point bending using finite element analysis. Key crashworthiness indicators, such as peak crushing force (Ppeak), mean crushing force (Pm), energy absorption (EA), specific energy absorption (SEA), and crushing force efficiency (CFE), are evaluated under varying wall thicknesses (0.8–1.2 mm), inner-wall spacings (3–6 mm), and weld pitches (15–30 mm). The numerical results are compared with the super-beam theory, showing that predictive accuracy strongly depends on cross-sectional symmetry. While SHDW exhibits significant discrepancies (~26.7%), DHDW shows excellent agreement (~1.41%). Parametric analysis identifies wall thickness as the dominant factor governing both crushing response and energy absorption, whereas spacing and weld pitch have only minor effects. Notably, DHDW consistently achieves higher SEA while maintaining comparable or improved CFE, indicating a more efficient and stable energy absorption mechanism. These findings highlight the advantages of symmetric double-hat configurations for lightweight crashworthy structures.
